There’s always been asexuals, even if people didn’t know what to call it. I’ve identified as asexual for a few years now, and a close friend was the only other person I knew who identified as asexual too. I think that since more people are hearing about it for the first time and have exposure, more people start to realize that’s who they are. I’m glad there seems to be  a larger community and awareness about now.
